Zoltan M. (Zully) Szenics nasce il 9 aprile 1915 da una famiglia di immigrati ungheresi che abitano a New York City. Dopo aver frequentato il college per due anni, nel 1935 Szenics trova impiego presso lo studio di animazione di Max Fleischer come inchiostratore. Vi resterà fino al 1938 circa.

Si dedica poi al lettering, iniziando presso lo studio di "A" Chesler. Nel 1940 si traferisce al Will Eisner Studio, contribuendo tra l'altro ai primi inserti settimanali di The Spirit e a vari comic books.

All'inizio del 1942, Gill Fox diviene direttore artistico presso la Quality Comics di Everett "Busy" Arnold ed assume Szenics, che aveva conosciuto allo studio Fleischer. In una intervista, Fox ricorderà poi che: "Zully mi aiutava a controllare I disegni e a correggere le bozze, ma più che altro si occupava del lettering. Anche sua moglie divenne poi una letterista. Si sposarono grazie a me. Erano entrambi ungheresi. Viveva con suo padre e sua madre e spesso andavo a fargli visita. Una volta eravamo seduti nella sua stanza e vidi una ragazza passare davanti alla porta. Chiesi 'Chi è?' e Zully rispose 'Una ragazza che è venuta dall'Ungheria per aiutare mia madre'. Allora chiesi: 'L'hai mai guardata bene? È davvero bella!' Bè, un anno dopo erano sposati. Il suo nome era Terry [Theresa Woik, nata il 26 dicembre 1919 in Ungheria], e noi quattro andavamo in vacanza
insieme".

Szenics viene arruolato il 1° ottobre 1942 e svolge il servizio militare come soldato semplice nei Signal Corps. Apparentemente realizza delle storie anche sotto le armi, che apparirà nei titoli della Archie Comics nel 1943-44.

Di ritorno dalla Guerra, Szenics frequenta la scuola d'arte per nove anni grazie al G.I. Bill. Torna a fare il lettering e anche le chine per la Quality. Dal 1947 al 1954 disegna inoltre qualche storia per Farrell, Ace e Lev Gleason.

Più tardi Szenics lavora nel campo dell'arte commerciale e pubblicitaria, producendo tra l'altro filmine per la Troll Associates nel 1969. Sua moglie Terry è una prolifica letterista per le editrici Quality, Orbit, Archie and Marvel tra il 1943 e il 1963, nonché una illustratrice di libri.

Szenics muore il 15 giugno 1995 all'età di 80 anni a Pasco, in Florida. Terry se n'è andata il 6 aprile 1995 a 76 anni.

Zoltan M. (Zully) Szenics was born April 9, 1915 into a family of Hungarian immigrants living in New York City. After attending college for two years, in 1935 Szenics found employment at the Max Fleischer animation studio as a cel inker. He was there until about 1938.

He then devoted himself to the art of lettering, starting at the Harry "A" Chesler studio. In 1940 he moved to the Will Eisner Studio, contributing to the first few Spirit weekly sections and to various comic books.

In early 1942, Gill Fox became an editor at Everett "Busy" Arnold's Quality Comics, and he hired Szenics, whom he had known at Fleischer. In an interview, Fox recalled: "Zully would help check art and proofread scripts, but he mostly lettered. His wife became a letterer, too. They were married because of me. Both were Hungarian. He was living with his mother and father and I'd go up there to visit. Once, we were sitting in his room and I saw a girl passing the doorway. I said, 'Who's that?' Zully said, 'That's a girl who came from Hungary to help my mother.' I asked, 'Did you ever look at her? She's beautiful!' Well, a year later they were married. Her name was Terry [Theresa Woik, born December 26, 1919 in Hungary], and the four of us used to vacation together."

Szenics was drafted on October 1, 1942 and served as a Private in the Signal Corps. Apparently, he did some artwork while in the Army, which appeared in Archie Comics titles during 1943-44.

Back from WWII, Szenics went to art school for nine years on the G.I. Bill. He went back to doing lettering and some inking at Quality. From 1947-54, he also drew a few comic book stories for Farrell, Ace, and Lev Gleason.

Szenics later worked in the commercial and advertising art field, producing filmstrips for Troll Associates in 1969. His wife Terry was a prominent letterer at Quality, Orbit, Archie and Marvel from 1943-63, as well
as a book illustrator.

Szenics died June 15, 1995 at age 80 in Pasco, Florida. Terry had passed away on April 6, 1995 at age 76.
