NORM McGARY
Norman Fredrick McGary Jr. nasce il 20 ottobre 1930 nell'Illinois da Norman Frederick McGary Sr. (1902-1991) e Helen McGary (1909-2003). Quest'ultima è originaria della California, e ben presto la famiglia si trasferisce a Los Angeles. Norman compie studi artistici, diventando un ottimo illustratore di libri per bambini. Nel 1953 inizia a lavorare per fumetti e libri pubblicati con varie etichette
dalla Western Printing. Spesso su matite di altri artisti, McGary dipinge diverse copertine per gli albi giganti con etichetta Dell e Gold Key, oltre a
moltissime storie per libri per bambini con i personaggi Disney, MGM, Warner Bros., Walter Lantz e Hanna-Barbera.
McGary vive a Banning, California, non lontano da San Jacinto e Hemet, dove abita Carl Barks. McGary collabora indirettamente con Barks due volte, e viene accreditato per Donald Duck and the Christmas Carol (A Little Golden Book, 1960), anche se in effetti Barks ne ha realizzato il disegno a matita.
McGary lascia la Western nel 1965, continuando la sua carriera come illustratore di libri per bambini e cartoline natalizie, concentrandosi ora su temi religiosi. Le sue copertine e illustrazioni appaiono sui volumi pubblicati da J. Vernon McGee, Hal Lindsey, Institution of Creation Research, ACTS Tracts e Rock of Israel.

L'insegnante della Bibbia Chuck Missler esorta McGary a mostrare il suo portfolio di ispirati dipinti, che raffigurano Gesù Cristo nella Bibbia, a Pat Matrisciana della Jeremiah Films. Matrisciana ritiene possano essere integrati e ampliati in un lungometraggio, del quale affida il progetto all'esperta della Bibbia Dorothy A. Miller. Norman Fredrick McGary Jr. was born October 20, 1930 in Illinois from Norman Frederick McGary Sr. (1907-1963) and Helen McGary (1907-2003). The latter was from California, and the family soon moved to Los Angeles. Norman did his art studies there, becoming a master painter for children's books. By 1953 he was working for Western Printing's comics and book divisions. Often over other artists' pencils, McGary painted several covers for Dell and Gold Key Giants, as well as a lot of stories for children's books featuring Disney, MGM, Warner Bros., Walter Lantz, and Hanna-Barbera characters.
McGary lived in Banning, California, not far from San Jacinto and Hemet, where Carl Barks lived. McGary indirectly collaborated with Barks twice, receiving sole credit on Donald Duck and the Christmas Carol (A Little Golden Book, 1960), although Barks had actually done pencil art for it.
McGary left Western in 1965, continuing his career as a children's book and Christmas card illustrator, focusing on religious topics. His covers and art appeared on work done for J. Vernon McGee, Hal Lindsey, Institution of Creation Research, ACTS Tracts, and Rock of Israel.
In 1974 his drawings graced Promise, published by Harvest House. In 1988 he illustrated four books in the Andy Ant series created by Lawrence W. O'Nan and written by Gerald D. O'Nan for Tyndale Press of Wheaton, Illinois. That same year he illustrated Ryan and the Circus Wheels, written by Joni Eareckson Tada for Chariot Family Publishing.
Bible teacher Chuck Missler urged McGary to show his portfolio of inspired paintings, which depicted Jesus Christ throughout the Bible, to Pat Matrisciana of Jeremiah Films. Matrisciana felt that these paintings could be added to and expanded into a full-length film, and commissioned Bible expert Dorothy A. Miller to head the project. She led the Jeremiah team as they produced the 80-minute video, God's Story: From Creation to Eternity (1995), featuring the vocal talents of Disney movie actor Dean Jones.
McGary passed away on February 10, 2012.
