Comic Writers Hall of Fame No. 2
HUBIE KARP
Hubert Richard Karp, detto Hubie o Hube, nasce l’11 ottobre 1914 a Minneapolis, Minnesota da Theodore (Ted) J. Karp e Izebella E. Hennenberry.
Contribuisce quindi, creando numerosi “animali buffi”, agli albi delle editrici ACG/Creston, Better/Standard, Rural Home e soprattutto a The Fox and the Crow della DC/National.

Hubert (Hubie, Hube) Richard Karp was born October 11, 1914 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Ted J. Karp and Izebella Hennenberry. He was the third of four children, his sibling being Lynn Theodore, Robert Louis, and Helen Mary. From 1920-30 the Karps resided in Mankato, Blue Earth, Minnesota.
By 1934 Hubie had moved to Minneapolis with his wife Loretta (born 1920), and a daughter, Karen, was born in 1940 in Los Angeles, California, where Hubie was hired at the Disney animation studio. His brothers Lynn and Bob also worked there, respectively as animator and comic strip writer. Hubie was employed as a story-man and until 1942 he contributed to various shorts.
By 1939 Karp had started drawing cartoons and was also collaborating with the Disney Newspaper Strip Department headed by Floyd Gottfredson. Until 1944 he wrote the Mickey Mouse, Silly Symphonies, and Joe Carioca Sunday pages.
In 1944 he moved to Leon Schlesinger’s animation studio at Warner Bros. He mostly worked as a story man for director Bob Clampett until 1946.
In the meantime he was also writing comic book stories for Sangor Studios’ West Coast branch, headed by animator Jim Davis. Creating several funny animals, he contributed to titles published by ACG/Creston, Better/Standard, Rural Home, and to DC/National’s The Fox and the Crow. He shared a studio with Jim Davis, Al Hubbard and Jack Bradbury from 1948-51.
He then moved to New York, where he continued writing for comics and started writing gags for Bob Hope, Dean Martin, and Jerry Lewis.
He prematurely passed away on August 2, 1953 in Los Angeles. He was only 39 years old.
