HAWLEY PRATT

Dirige anche cortometraggi televisivi delle serie Roland and Rattfink, The Super 6, The Inspector, The Tijuana Toads e The Ant and the Aardvark, oltre a tre special ispirati ai racconti del Dr. Seuss: The Cat in the Hat, Dr. Seuss on the Loose e The Lorax.

Hanna-Barbera, Disney, UPA, Larry Harmon e altri studi.

Hawley Pratt was born June 9, 1911 in Seattle, Washington, and raised in the Bronx by his widowed mother Mabel. Pratt attended the Pratt Institute of the Arts in Brooklyn, graduating in 1931. After moving to California, he became an artist at the Walt Disney Studio in 1933, working
there as a layout artist until shortly after the strike in 1941. He lived in Glendale with his wife Cecelia. He then joined Schlesinger/Warner Bros., again serving as a layout and background artist until 1963 for director Isadore "Friz" Freleng. Among his outstanding credits there are the Oscar-winning Tweetie Pie, which introduced the Sylvester and Tweety team-up, and Speedy Gonzales, with Freleng and Pratt redefining the Fastest Mouse in Mexico. Pratt co-directed a few shorts with Freleng in 1961-62, and then directed Señorella and the Glass Huarache, which was released in 1964, although Pratt had left the studio in November 1962.

While working at Warner, in 1946-47, Pratt drew a few comic book stories featuring funny animals for Sangor Studio, which were published by American Comics Group and Standard.

During 1962-63 Pratt and Freleng worked at the Hanna-Barbera studio on Hey There, It's Yogi Bear before the two moved to the new studio Freleng set up with David DePatie. They co-created the Pink Panther for the animated title sequence of the 1963 live-action movie. Pratt  directed
or co-directed several Pink Panther shorts, and the 1966 short The Pink Blueprint earned him an Oscar nomination. He also directed on such TV series as Roland and Rattfink, The Super 6, The Inspector, The Tijuana Toads, Roland and Rattfink e The Ant and the Aardvark,, as well as on the Dr. Seuss specials The Cat in the Hat, Dr. Seuss on the Loose, and The Lorax. Pratt was an associate director and production designer on the 1964 animated feature The Incredible Mr. Limpet.

While working in animation, Pratt did pencil illustrations for several Little Golden Books and  Big Golden Books featuring Hanna-Barbera, Disney, UPA, and Larry Harmon characters.

Pratt retired in 1974 and passed away March 4, 1999 in Ventura, California.
